300kW Zeal’s Hotel
Exeter, England
ABOUT THE PROJECT
UK’s First Net-Zero Hotel Powered by Solar Cladding
Zeal’s Exeter Science Park hotel is the UK’s first net-zero hotel featuring vertical solar cladding on three walls and a rooftop array. The system generates 300,000 kWh annually and is backed by a robust commercial strategy.
At the heart of its innovative design is the wrap-around vertical solar panel façade.
Seamlessly integrated into the building’s design, the black glass panels maximise energy
production while serving as a visually striking element that complements the hotel’s
contemporary aesthetic.
Project Highlights
Vertical Solar Facade 320 kW system: Installed a complete wrap-around vertical solar facade comprising 2,619 panels, fully integrated with the building’s architectural design.
Enhanced Generation Capacity: Upgraded the system with higher-efficiency solar arrays, significantly increasing overall energy output.
Innovative Engineering: Employed specialised wall thickness and bespoke mounting techniques to optimise space and aesthetics.
Circular Economy in Action: Recycled existing components wherever possible, supporting circular economy principles and reducing waste.
Seamless Architectural Integration: Achieved a visually striking and functional facade, delivering both sustainability and architectural value.
Advanced Performance Monitoring: Deployed a comprehensive monitoring solution, enabling detailed, real-time performance data and system insights.
