Your Eco were delighted to attend the Elevate Somerset with the Somerset Chamber of Commerce — a strong reminder that when business shows up, our voice genuinely shapes policy and decision-making.

The big themes were simple (and powerful): Connection. Influence. Growth.

Standouts

  • Closing Remarks from His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset, Mohammed Saddiq, plus a helpful overview of the King’s Award for Enterprise (and how it’s evolved from the Queen’s Award — thanks Nigel Beacom for the insight).

  • David Crew setting out the purpose of Elevate Somerset and the Chamber’s 2026–2029 strategy — clear priorities around skills, infrastructure/digital connectivity, inclusive growth, and responsible business.

  • Emma Warren (Elite Staffing Solutions): “change to grow” — and the truth that without the right people, nothing moves forward.

  • Somerset Cricket also deserves a mention — Jamie Cox, Commercial Director at Somerset County Cricket Club update was a good reminder that the club is more than sport; it’s a serious community and business asset for the county. It brings people together, creates pride of place, and provides a high-quality platform for local brands to connect, host, and build relationships in a way that feels genuinely Somerset.

  • Updates on major investment and supply chain opportunities (including Gideon Amos MP, the Agratas investment, and the Leonardo contract).

If you’re building in Somerset, it’s worth being in the room.

The Somerset Chamber’s business partner network includes major UK operators and employers such as Costain, Bristol Airport, EDF, Leonardo, and Müller—a mix that spans infrastructure delivery, critical transport connectivity, energy, advanced engineering/defence manufacturing, and large-scale food production. Having organisations of that calibre visibly backing the Chamber reinforces the seriousness of the 2026–2029 agenda: it signals real momentum behind investment, skills development, resilient supply chains, and responsible growth across the region. It also creates a practical platform for collaboration between large anchors and high-performing local SMEs—exactly where opportunities tend to move from “good conversation” to “real projects.”
