Last week, Your Eco was honoured to join the UK Warehousing Association’s (UKWA) landmark roundtable, chaired by Michael Shanks MP, Minister for Energy from DESNEZ. This pivotal event brought together warehouse operators, developers, the solar industry, and government to address the barriers to commercial rooftop solar across the UK.

Discussions focused on overcoming key challenges—from insurance and grid connections to legislative friction. With cross-party support and strong public enthusiasm, the message from the sector was clear: we are ready to unlock the immense potential of rooftop solar in warehousing and help the UK achieve its renewable energy ambitions.

Michael Shanks MP gave his strong backing for industrial rooftop solar, highlighting its crucial role in achieving net zero and supporting businesses to cut energy bills. The sector’s readiness is clear: companies are eager, technology is proven, installers are experienced, and finance is available. While insurance and landlord/tenant complexities can still cause delays, momentum is building.

To help warehouse operators turn ambition into action, UKWA has launched the Solar Toolkit: 2025 Edition—a free, practical guide covering planning, permissions, funding, insurance, and real-world case studies. This toolkit provides a clear roadmap for powering warehouses with solar and advancing sustainability across the industry.
