Your Eco was proud to be represented at Wales Week / London 2026 at the High Commission of Canada in the United Kingdom, marking the launch of our newest Welsh office and another step forward in strengthening Wales–Canada relationships.
It was brilliant to spend the evening with RBC and the Canada–UK Chamber of Commerce, with a clear shared focus: supporting business collaboration and accelerating practical support on both sides of the Atlantic — particularly in sectors like energy, innovation and decarbonisation.
We heard from
Rt Hon. Jo Stevens MP, Secretary of State for Wales
Andrew R. Smith, Counsellor (Commercial/Economic) & Senior Trade Commissioner, High Commission of Canada
Ayesha Patel, Chief Operating Officer, RBC Capital Markets Europe
Andrew Gwatkin, International Relations and Trade, Welsh Government
Key takeaways
Wales–Canada ties go back to 1869 — and today trade spanning advanced manufacturing, tech and energy is worth £135bn, supporting 135,000 UK jobs.
The Canada–UK Chamber of Commerce, alongside leaders across government, universities and capital markets, is actively driving bilateral growth.
Wales Week in Canada has more than a decade of momentum behind it — including 12 Welsh firms currently on a trade mission, and a Montreal office established in 2018.
Cardiff–Toronto direct flights (4x weekly) are a real enabler for collaboration, investment and innovation.
A huge thank you to Belinda Houghton-Jones and the sponsors at RBC Brewin Dolphin for Intermediaries for the invite — and for the introductions across the ecosystem. Building strong relationships early (well before any “exit” conversations) matters, and it’s clear that serious support for Welsh decarbonisation is already underway.
Events like these are a good reminder: economic ties aren’t just about trade — they’re about shared progress, sustainability, and getting the right people in the room to turn ambition into delivery.
