One of the most promising opportunities for solar energy lies in the UK warehousing sector. Across the country, warehouses offer roof space capable of hosting up to 15GW of new solar installations, generating an estimated 13.8 terawatt hours of electricity annually. This has the potential to save the logistics industry around £3 billion per year through energy cost reductions and income from energy exports. Given the high energy demands of warehousing, rooftop solar can deliver savings of 40 to 80 percent on electricity bills. Your Eco’s vision aligns closely with that of the UK Warehousing Association—to transform warehouses into net producers of renewable electricity through the widespread adoption of rooftop solar PV systems.

Litecast Limited is one such company setting a new benchmark for sustainability in the construction supply and warehousing industry. Facing rising demand due to the ongoing housebuilding boom in the UK, Litecast recently invested £13 million in a new state-of-the-art, energy-efficient production facility in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. Determined to minimise its environmental impact, Litecast partnered with Your Eco to design and install a high-performance rooftop solar PV system atop its warehouse.

The system installed at Litecast’s facility is a 350kW SolarEdge PV rooftop solution, incorporating over 1,000 solar panels. The setup includes 511 SolarEdge Power Optimizers, nine inverters, and a weather station. Together, these components are expected to generate over 284 megawatt hours of electricity annually and offset nearly 80 tonnes of carbon emissions each year. This installation represents a significant milestone in Litecast’s ambition to become the UK’s first carbon-neutral construction supply company.

While the solar array currently provides enough electricity to meet the site’s total annual demand, surplus energy is returned to the grid in the absence of an on-site battery. However, Litecast plans to install a battery system in the near future to store unused energy, taking another important step toward energy self-sufficiency and carbon neutrality.

In addition to its environmental benefits, the system delivers strong financial returns. It improves the facility’s Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating, increases asset value, and benefits from the UK’s 0% VAT rate on solar panel installations in place until 2027, significantly reducing upfront investment costs.

Nick Spicer, Managing Director of Your Eco UK, praised Litecast’s leadership: “Litecast is transforming the construction industry by investing in technologies that deliver both sustainability and long-term value. While many in the sector are slow to adopt renewables, Litecast is proving that solar energy is not just a responsible choice, but also a commercially smart one. Their use of SolarEdge’s advanced, DC-optimised system ensures maximum efficiency, enhanced safety, and reduced operational costs over the system’s lifetime.”

Through this project, Litecast demonstrates how forward-thinking companies can lead the transition to a low-carbon economy—while building a stronger, cleaner future for the construction sector and beyond.
