Knorr-Bremse Melksham has taken a major step toward sustainability with the installation of a 565 kW solar PV systemâthe largest on a curved standing seam roof in the UK!
Completed in 2023, this project powers essential equipment, lighting, and air conditioningÂ
The system features:âïž 1,414 smart solar panels⥠Generating 537,488 kWh of clean energy annuallyđ Offsetting over 107,500 kg of COâ emissions every yearđ Powered by SolarEdge technology Power Optimisers to boost output and efficiency
Solar PV systems generate clean, renewable energy from sunlight, significantly reducing electricity costs and pollution associated with fossil fuel-based electricity generation. This means that Knorr-Bremse has reduced their greenhouse gas emissions and is contributing to long-term progress towards a low-carbon economy. The PV system comprises 1,414 solar modules, which have been upgraded to smart modules using SolarEdge Power Optimizers to increase energy production and to increase the number of modules in the array to further enhance energy yield. Controlling the system is two SolarEdge Three Phase Inverters with Synergy Technology allowing over panelling up to 150% creating more usable electricity throughout the year and meeting the inverters capacity.
These figures highlight the efficiency and impact of our solar solution, demonstrating how seamlessly businesses can transition to sustainable energy. Knorr-Bremse has significantly reduced its greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to the UKâs broader low-carbon goals
Terry Chesham, UK Facilities Manager at Knorr-Bremse, commented:âWorking closely with YourEco, we built a strong business case that enabled us to secure funding from our Group. Once we established the projectâs parameters, the design team created an accurate model that clearly demonstrated the benefits of solar PV for our facility.â
This project is a shining example of how commercial businesses can take real action to reduce their carbon footprint and lead the way toward a greener future.
As our CEOÂ Nick Spicer puts it:âWith rising energy prices and global uncertainty, this system helps future-proof operationsâand itâs all powered by southwest UK sunshine and smart tech.â
